When you tap your contactless debit/credit card or use Google/Apple Pay to initiate a charge session on one of our chargers we take a pre-authorisation amount of £10 from the bank account used. This is taken to verify the account is valid and has funds available.
This amount will be held as pending until the next step of the transaction.
Following this pre-authorisation there are several possible next steps:
- If the charge session initiates successfully and energy is taken, then the £10 amount will be converted to match the amount of energy taken at the end of the session. For example, if you take 10 kWh at a rate of £0.47/kWh, we will convert the £10 amount to £4.70 and take this from the account. If you take less than £3 worth of energy, we will round this up and take £3 from the account.
- If the charge session initiates successfully but no energy is taken, we allow a 5 minute grace period for the user to realise the car is not charging and unplug the vehicle before we will charge them the minimum amount of £3. If the user cancels the session by disconnecting before the 5 minute grace period ends, we will void the transaction and the £10 pending amount will be removed.
- If the charge session does not initiate successfully, we will void the transaction and the £10 pending amount will be removed
The conversion of the £10 pending amount to the actual final fee, as well as the voiding of a transaction, happens instantly on our side but can take as long as several days to be processed by the user's bank account. Once the session is voided on our side, we have no further visibility of the transaction.
